And whammy is on my list of shows to be seen.  Unfortunatly, the GSN phone line says it's no longer in production.  Any chance this could change?

The current batch of shows weren't announced until last January or early February(and began airing in mid-March), so it is possible they will soon be seeking new contestants for new episode. No word on a renewal as yet, however. Mandel Illagan, if he's around, could maybe tell us better.

Slightly off-topic, but does the "change-the-Y-to-I-and-add-ES" rule apply to proper nouns? I figure it should be Whammies, even in the context of "any new Whammys being taped soon?", but...

No, it does not.  See this link (scroll down to just before the TEST YOURSELF section, almost at the bottom).

A good example of that are the awards shows.  We write "Emmys" not "Emmies", "Grammys" not "Grammies", "Tonys" not "Tonies".

Of course, to be perfectly, gramatically correct, you have to capitalize the W in Whammys, otherwise it's not a proper noun.

That's it for today, class.  Be sure to read chapter three for homework, and remember the quiz on Friday.

The weekly quizzes are each worth five percent of your total grade.  The midterm and the final are each worth twenty percent, and your independent project -- which is due December 5th don't forget -- is worth the final ten.

Didn't you geta copy of the syllabus?

Three spins for a jump-in, one spin for a multiple choice.  We were supposedly talking about "Whammy!", after all.  :)

And how many extra credit points is it worth if the Big Bank question is answered correctly?
